International Baccalaureate, IB, is an international Programme in 156 primary, secondary and high schools all over the world. Växjö International Baccalaureate Grundskola (VIBG) at Teleborg Centrum secondary school has joined schools in Sweden and globally, as a world school, delivering the IB MYP programme from grades 7-9.
The aim of VIBG programme is to empower students through inspiring and scaffolding their development of knowledge and ability to work with problem solving in different forms and ways. This also means to nurture the quality of self-insight as inquirers, researchers and communicators.
International-mindedness is an important part of VIBG education that strives to establish in its students a feeling of connection to and moral responsibility within the global community. VIBG students thus work constantly with what it means to be open-minded and are given many opportunities to develop their understanding of, respect for, and value the diversity of cultures in the classroom and the world.
For the benefit of stimulating and developing students’ deeper and lifelong learning, it is our goal at VIBG to identify and stimulate in them an innate capacity for engagement, creativity and continuous curiosity. In this vein both theoretical and practical subjects at VIBG collaborate to develop fun, challenging and learning opportunities and projects that go beyond the subjects, beyond the classroom and beyond pre-established ways of thinking.
The Language of instruction in VIBG subjects is in English for 50 percent of the time and in Swedish for 50 percent of the hours across the 3 years of the MYP.
VIBG classes follow both the IB MYP International Programme and Swedish curriculum LGR11 in parallel. These two “curricula” are similar to each other with similar goals. Simply put however, LGR 11 provides the subject content, whilst the IBO steers and assures the IB pedagogical delivery of that content. The IBO outlines a pedagogical strategy that is thus a framework of education that the Swedish national curriculum fits in.

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

To form a positive, thriving climate for student development, it is crucial that a whole VIBG community decides together upon Essential Agreements. This will also allow everyone to exercise our rights and expectations for a programme where students can also then thrive socially and achieve educational success.
Valuing lifelong learning, being active, compassionate and willing to respect others are significant dimensions of Essential agreements within and outside of the classroom. Collaboration between the pedagogical leadership team, teachers, students and parents are necessary if these aspects are to be followed.
VIBG Essential Agreements design gives voice to students and other VIBG community members. Through designing and reviewing the agreements annually and reasoning consistently through the values within the agreements, the IB and VIBG mission and philosophy are helped kept alive.
